Simply put, Columbus is an art town. Visitors will find a wide variety of venues to see fine art. The Columbus Museum of Art exhibits works of art across all genres, and features artists ranging from nationally-known local artist Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson to world-renowned masters such as Monet and Renoir. Next door, the Columbus College of Art and Design, one of the largest private art colleges in the nation, has a public gallery with traveling, student and instructor exhibitions.

The Wexner Center for the Arts on the campus of the Ohio State University is at the leading edge of contemporary art with not only exhibitions in its galleries but also dance, performances, films and lectures. The King Arts Complex is dedicated to the celebration of diversity through visual, fine and performing arts, and honoring and presenting the artistic contributions of African Americans throughout history.

New exhibitions are often the focus of the monthly Gallery Hop in the Short North Arts District. Area galleries and other businesses open their doors to the public for a night of music, dining and fun under the arches on the first Saturday of each month.

Pockets of private galleries are found in areas, such as Bexley's Hammond Harkin Gallery, German Village's Keny Gallery and downtown's Hawk Galleries.
