What to Do with Holiday Visitors, Part 1: COSI and BODY WORLDS & the Brain!

We all have this dilemma – you have a house full of guests, and can’t think of a fun activity that will work for everyone. Well, we at Experience Columbus are always full of good ideas for things to do around the city, so over the next week, we won’t only be giving you ideas: We’ll also be giving away 4-packs of tickets to all the attractions we blog about this week! So stay tuned for some great tips and giveaways!

If you’ve so much as driven past Columbus before, you know that COSI is always a great place to visit. The permanent exhibits are always cool to visit and bring out-of-towners to see, but the high-caliber of special exhibits make COSI a place to return to again and again for both fun and learning.

We’re giving away FOUR tickets to COSI and Body Worlds – a 99-dollar value! To enter, pin the image in this post and use the hashtag #expcols in your description. I

Right now, COSI is hosting BODY WORLDS & the Brain, a incredibly engaging exhibit illuminating neuroscience through real, plastinated human specimens. The brain and nervous system are extremely complex, and you will see exactly how complex at the exhibit. The plastinated bodies are displayed tastefully, in ways that help a layperson understand just how we work. You can view comparisons of healthy brains and those with neurological disorders like Alzheimer’s in cross section. It’s truly astounding to see for yourself just how delicate and resilient humans are on a physical level.

If you’ve been to the exhibit already – you should plan on going again! COSI has added four new plastinates: The Walking Elder, The Trapeze Artist, and The Hockey Players. COSI has extended hours during the run of the exhibition, and it’s open seven days a week from Dec. 26-Jan. 6.

My baby girl steadily walked for the first time at COSI! She had been trying to walk without falling and chasing the balls around the kids area is what did it for her! :)

When my kids were 6 and 7 I brought them to COSI around Christmas time. There was a wonderful set up in the main space with blocks, connections type toys to make vehicles, even huge dominoes. My children had so much fun with the “elf” volunteers in that space we never went to see the rest of the museum! (Which was OK as we were regular visitors.)

My greatest memory of COSI was when I was in 4th grade and I was able to spend the night at COSI (old location) with my girlscout group and slept in a sleeping bag on the floor under the giant heart. Was the best sleepover ever!!!

A favorite memory: My extended family, who we see rarely, was in town for Thanksgiving and we all got to go to COSI together. My brother-in-law rode the bicycle and we saw rat basketball for the first time :)

  • Wesley Van Wormer

My Favorite COSI memory is hard to choose, but the more I think about it, it may have to be the Titanic. It really put me in the time period and was super surreal. Every moment at COSI is always and great one and filled with memories.

My favorite COSI memory is taking my daughter and her preschool class to visit. She was chosen to participate in the static electricity experiment and it made her hair stand straight up. She was so scared she cried but I got lots of pictures. She was later so excited when she got to see the rats playing basketball. Those where the highlights of our trip that time. We have had memberships in the past, but do to our current financial situation we have been unable to visit or purchase memberships in the past year.

We went last year and Sierra Nevada had a display. Being a homebrewer, I asked if I could have a banner. They said yes and I was able to take it home with me at the end of the night. I had a good time and so did the rest of the family!
