When I tell most of my friends that documentary films are my favorite kind of movies they look at me like I am out of my mind, or, as they feared, I am kind of a bore. To be honest, I might be dull, but the recent trend in documentary filmmaking is not.

Documentary Week 2 (1)

Some of this year’s most stunning, eye-opening and interesting films are included as part of Columbus Documentary Week: a new partnership between Gateway Film Center, Experience Columbus and Yelp. Columbus Documentary Week begins on Thursday March 14 and features 19 great choices for Central Ohio movie watchers. There is something for everyone in the line-up, whether you want to learn about hunger in America with A PLACE AT THE TABLE or return to the infamous Amityville haunting in MY AMITYVILLE HORROR or watch Academy Award nominee 5 BROKEN CAMERAS. Most of these films would not have played in Columbus without documentary week, so don’t miss your chance to watch this year’s hottest documentary films.

What’s the best documentary you’ve watched this year?

  • Valerie A Lockard

An Act of Killing was traumatic, visceral, and hard to watch at times.
But I’m glad I saw it and I think, by far, it had the best ending for a
2013 documentary. Now, to switch hears, 20 Feet from Stardom was so
much fun! Loved the singers – although I didn’t I know I did until I
    saw this!
