My latest culinary adventure took me to 101 Beer Kitchen in a shopping center on Sawmill and Hard Road. I’m fortunate to have an adventuresome dad, and he came with me on this trip so I didn’t have to eat everything on the menu.
Once we made the decision to sit on their lovely patio, our next decision was which beer to order. Their beer list is quite extensive with anything from draft to bottles to cans. They help make your decision easier by listing the beers with similar profiles. I decided on a lighter Brooklyn Brewery beer and my dad tried a Belgian style ale.
We started our meal with their Housemade Soft Pretzels topped with sea salt and caraway, served with a beer cheese and chive spread. I like to say I’m a soft pretzel connoisseur and these are great! They have a nice crust and are soft and chewy on the inside. The beer cheese and chive spread was a great addition with a little bit of a bite to it. We didn’t order these, but I’d like to give a special shout out to whoever came up with their Loaded Housemade Tater Tots. These tots come with pork croutons (say what?!), cheddar cheese, green onions and America’s new ketchup, Sriracha.
For our main meals we ordered the BBQ Brisket Sandwich and the 101 Vegan Burger. The BBQ Brisket Sandwich had everything you would want in a sandwich – house smoked brisket, horseradish cream, grilled onions, gouda cheese and then was served with slaw and creole ranch chips. The 101 Vegan Burger had a sweet potato and black bean base with jalapeno cream and tomato. This sandwich came with a tasty tomato and Israeli couscous salad. I enjoy veggie burgers and this one is a keeper…my dad even liked it!
All and all 101 Beer Kitchen is a great place to relax and have great beer and food with friends. Perhaps their website describes the atmosphere the best when they describe it as “…rustic sophistication.” So if this sounds like the place for you, go check out one of their monthly beer dinners or sign up for their beer club, which will make you quite the educated beer drinker.
