Looking for a statement piece to spice up your wardrobe, or an accessory that completes the perfect outfit? Look no further! Head down to the Short North Arts District and discover why Columbus has one of the nation’s premier boutique districts. There you will find numerous boutiques that offer their own flair and individuality which have contributed in the growth of Columbus as a fashion destination.
For example, Jinny is a women’s designer boutique that provides a highly edited seasonal collection of emerging and established designers of apparel, accessories and footwear both globally and domestically. Catering to confident women ages 25-65, Jinny sells accessible, yet compelling merchandise with many designer names such as Rick Owens, Acne, The Row, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Nili Lotan, Alexander Wang, and R13, or on-radar brands such as Maiyet, Chinti & Parker, AR, Jonathan Simkhai, Frame Denim, or Edun.
“Our mantra most resonates through modern classics and the pursuit of simplicity as the key to elegance, relevance and self-assurance,” said Jin H. Fillinger, founder of Jinny. “Our brands reflect this same DNA with their distinctive ready-to-wear collections.”
Substance is an alternative boutique in The Short North Arts District that focuses on sustainable, re-purposed, vegan-friendly made clothing and accessories. The boutique is always seeking out indie contemporary designers, fair trade and local artisans, sustainably produced products as well as classic high quality pieces. Founder and CEO, Christina Getachew, opened the doors of Substance in the Short North in 2002.
“I wanted my business to remain grounded by this simple principle… Where there is style, there should also be substance,” said Getachew.
What really makes Substance particularly special is the Design Lab which is located front-and-center in the boutique. The space is dedicated to the creative process of innovating sustainable fashion, utilizing Substance’s “no waste philosophy,” and allows the designers to fully utilize the clothing and material that is ordered for the store. The Design Lab Collection is designed and constructed from start to finish by the in-house designers. The collection is revealed quarterly, with rare pieces made from repurposed fabric from t-shirts and overstock styles that would normally be thrown out.
Another prominent boutique that can’t be missed is Rowe. Located in the heart of the Short North, Rowe is a contemporary boutique retail store for the lifestyle minded woman specializing in emerging and current contemporary designers. They carry incredibly unique and special, yet wearable pieces that can transition into all aspects of customer’s lives.
Rowe also has expert sales associates who also act as personal stylists and shoppers for their customers. As a small boutique, Rowe prides itself on being very approachable by making sure their clients are comfortable when they walk in, feel fantastic about their purchase and more importantly themselves when they leave.
“We work with a lot of women of all ages, shapes and sizes,” said Marin Roth the founder of Rowe Boutique. “If you look good you will feel good, never underestimate the power of a great piece of clothing.”
