Columbus gains a new convention package

With $200 million plus in new enhancements, Columbus’ convention package keeps improving. With the latest additions, Columbus will offer more than 3,700 hotel rooms and 410,000 square feet of exhibition space downtown.

Hilton Convention Center Hotel

The downtown skyline is getting an exciting addition: a new 532-room Hilton Convention Center Hotel directly across from and connected to the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The $160 million full-service hotel, scheduled to open in fall 2012, includes 48 suites, 30,650 square feet of meeting space and an adjacent 900-car parking garage.

The new Hilton was made possible through the collaboration of the City of Columbus, the Franklin County Commissioners, the Convention Facilities Authority and Nationwide Realty Investors.

“This is a public partnership that opens the door for new convention and event business in Columbus like never before,” said Paul Astleford, Experience Columbus president and CEO. “When it opens in 2012 we will be able to compete for a much larger share of the state, regional and national convention market and host multiple events at the same time.”

Battelle Grand

Inside the Greater Columbus Convention Center, the newly renovated Battelle Grand opened in January 2010. It’s the largest ballroom in Ohio, with 74,000 square feet of space. The hall’s $40 million facelift includes a high-tech ceiling system that provides customized lighting options, movable wall systems that allow the space to be divided into five areas, a new kitchen and a large window that offers an expansive view of downtown Columbus.

Spreading the news to meeting professionals

To showcase the new convention package to meeting professionals, Experience Columbus partnered with the Greater Columbus Convention Center to host meeting planners and convention trade publication editors from across the country at the Battelle Grand’s opening gala Feb. 4. Experience Columbus took 10 meeting planners and convention trade publication editors on a pre-gala familiarization tour of Columbus, showcasing the Short North Arts District, German Village, Arena District and downtown, including the Scioto Mile.
