Anyone who enjoys gardens and all the colors they display will enjoy what Columbus has to offer. Visitors can take their pick among more than a dozen garden destinations in the Greater Columbus area to take in the great outdoors in the city.

The Franklin Park Conservatory on the city's east side is a tribute not only to vegetation, but architecture as well. The facility's various simulated environments spotlight plant life and climates from all over the world - ranging from a tropical rainforest to a desert. Not all the gardens are plants, either - Franklin Park is the only botanical garden in the world to have its own signature collection of glass art from internationally renowned artist Dale Chihuly.

Speaking of art, Columbus is also unique in that it has the only topiary garden based on a work of art. Topiary Park includes a re-creation of Georges Seurat's painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Isle of La Grand Jatte. Nearly 80 yew trees have been trained into the various three-dimensional people and animals featured in the painting.

Also a center of attention is the Columbus Park of Roses, a 13-acre spread within Whetstone Park, one of the largest city parks in Columbus. The park features more than 11,000 rose bushes, plus specialized perennial and herb gardens. The Park of Roses also offers an annual rose festival each June. In 2006, USA Today hailed the park as one of the top ten gardens in the world.
