Columbus is well known as a sports town. The Ohio State University, for example, fields teams in 36 varsity sports. Last season OSU was the first Big Ten school to win outright conference titles in football, and men's and women's basketball.

However, Columbus has also made its mark in other sports. The Columbus Crew is one of Major League Soccer's first teams, and plays in Crew Stadium, the first American stadium built specifically for soccer.

Nationwide Arena is the home of the National Hockey League's Columbus Blue Jackets, as well as the Arena Football League 2007 National Conference Champions, the Columbus Destroyers. Just down Nationwide Boulevard from the arena is the site of Huntington Park - which will be home to the Washington National's Triple-A baseball club, the Columbus Clippers in the 2009 season.

Columbus is also home to PGA Champion Jack Nicklaus, and a course he designed and built in nearby Dublin, the Muirfield Village Golf Club hosts the PGA Memorial Tournament.

The city is also home to the Arnold Sports Festival, an event celebrating health and physical fitness for all ages. The annual event marks its 20th year in March 2008.
