Saturday, Aug. 4 is National Mead Day! (Before you ask, mead is an alcoholic drink made from honey, much like wine is made from grape juice.) Columbus is lucky to be the home of Brothers Drake, which uses all local honey and had a beautiful tasting bar at High St. and 5th Ave. near the Short North.
To celebrate National Mead Day this Saturday, Brothers Drake is offering a whole day of events, starting with a mead breakfast, paired with A Taste of Belgium Waffles at 11 a.m. There's a free tour of the meadery at noon, and a DJ spinning from 1-5 p.m. Live performances are at 8 and 9 p.m.
If you're a homebrewer and want to try your hand at mead, you can get a lesson from the masters at 1 p.m. When hunger strikes, there will be food trucks lined up outside, and how could you pass up a Jeni's Ice Cream float with Brothers Drake Mead?
Have you tried Brothers Drake mead yet? What's your favorite way to drink it?
