HighBall has quickly become one of Columbus' signature events, and it truly a spectacle of the creative scene here. Read on to see why HighBall is known as America's fiercest costume party.
This two-day event is held on a closed-to-traffic High Street between Goodale and Nationwide boulevards. Friday, Oct. 24: HighBall on the Rocks
What to Wear: HighBall on the Rocks is a new event - and this year, it's celebrating the big hair and glam of the 1980s. So save your costume for tomorrow, and come in your fiercest red leather jacket, leg warmers or anything fluorescent.
What to Do: The Short North will be rocking from 6 p.m. - 1. a.m., with local bands playing their greatest hits along with some '80s cover songs. The headline for the night is none other than legend Taylor Dane, who rose to fame in the '80s with her three number one singles "Tell It to My Heart," "Love Will Lead You Back" and "Prove Your Love to Me." Hosted by Johnny DiLoretto and Nina West, this is sure to be a fun night.
What to Wear: Don't just throw on a ghoulish costume - get creative. There are big prizes for the best costumes (more info here.)
What to Do: Make your first appearance on the Entrance Runway and get some red carpet photos. You can walk in, or participate in the 5 p.m. HighBall Runway Run 5K - in costume, of course! Since this is all about fashion, you'll want to find a good spot to watch the Highball Costume Couture Fashion Show, where eight teams of professional designers will present their looks throughout the eventing.
The action goes late into the night, and you're going to want a convenient spot to sleep. The Hilton Downtown Columbus, literally inside the footprint of the HighBall festivities, has put together two great options for overnight stays that will add to the glam factor of your weekend, and get you admission and into VIP party areas with private bars and restrooms.
New this year, HighBall has a retail presence on High Street in the Short North - from Oct. 4-Nov. 1, find them at HighBall Head Quarters at 1127 . High Street. Buy tickets, attend workshops - or even start putting together your costume here. HighBall HQ will sell donated costumes from years past that can give you a leg up or at least get your creativity started.
