Independents day 4As the summer festival season sadly comes to a close, there are still a few left that let us cling on to the lazy days of summer. One such festival is Independents’ Day, which is now a three-day celebration of all things independent in Columbus that includes, but is not limited to, our musicians, artists and entrepreneurs.

Independents Day 3Each day of the festival is highlighted by appearances of some of Columbus’ best performers and groups like Nina West, The Regrettes, Lights Out and Momentum dancers. Each performance is a showcase and testament to the heart and soul of the independent spirit in Columbus. After all, the mission of the festival is “to celebrate and develop independent culture, commerce and creativity.”

In addition to the performances, the festival is full of great food and local crafters and vendors. To top it all off, a portion of the festival’s profits will go to three amazing causes: The Dick and Jane Project, Momentum and Project Zero.

Independents DayIf that’s not enough of a reason for you to go, scenes from Cool Runnings will be played out on the streets of Columbus with the Urban Bobsled Race on Sunday of the festival. Want to get in on the fun? Register here.

The festival runs Sept. 20-22 in downtown Columbus on Gay Street between Third and High and along Pearl Alley. Visit their website for more information.
