Columbus was recently host to the U.S. Men’s National Soccer team in their much-anticipated match against Mexico. This week Columbus is attracting the world showcase again as we host the U.S. Women’s National Soccer team against New Zealand in an international friendly.
Crew Stadium is the first soccer-specific stadium that was built in the county and has become the unofficial home of U.S. Soccer. Players we have grown to know and love since the 2012 London Olympics such as Abby Wambach, Hope Solo and Megan Rapinoe will all suit up for the match. This game comes on the heels of the recent announcement that Abby Wambach and Alex Morgan have made the short list for the FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year, an honor that has been bestowed on an American woman only three times.
Tickets are still available for the match and can be bought on Ticketmaster or through the U.S. Women’s Soccer team website here. Game time is at 7:30 p.m. and forecast calls for 65 degrees and partly cloudy skies, so grab your friends, some food and your soccer ball and hit the parking lot of Crew Stadium for some tailgating!
