Columbus is a great place to be to celebrate the Fourth of July because we’re lucky enough to be the home of Red, White & BOOM! —one of the biggest and best fireworks displays and Independence Day festivals in the Midwest! There’s great food , children’s activities, a talent competition , live music , parade, and—of course—fireworks.
This year is especially exciting because BOOM! is going all out to celebrate Columbus’ Bicentennial. Organizers have revealed that the fireworks show is going to be longer, and that there will be a special “birthday surprise.” In addition, the parade’s theme is: “CelebrateUS, recognizing Columbus' Bicentennial Celebration.”
Another highlight of 2012 is it’s the first year since 2007 that attendees can watch the fireworks from Bicentennial Park.
Now that you know what’s new for 2012, here’s a look at the details: Red, White & Boom Date: July 3, 2012 Time: 11 a.m.-Midnight Place: Downtown Riverfront Parade: 6 p.m.; Begins at the corner of Town Street and Washington Boulevard. It will move east toward Front Street, turn north on Front Street, then conclude at Spring Street. Fireworks: 10 p.m.; Fireworks will be shot over the river from Veterans Memorial.
Looking for a different way to experience BOOM!? Check out Ballpark Boom IV . For just $5 per ticket, you can enjoy the fireworks from the comfort of Huntington Park, where there will be live music and activities to keep everyone entertained until the fireworks begin.
As the day’s festivities wind down, there’s no reason to rush home. Stick around to avoid the traffic and enjoy more live music or a movie at the Arena Grand Movie Theater. Entertainment stages will be open until 11:30 p.m., and the Arena Grand is offering $5 movie tickets ($7 for 3D).
Happy Fourth of July everyone! Don’t forget to tweet us your fireworks photos: @ExpCols .
