It’s fall, which means it’s time for Pen and Tell It! We’ve moved online, but that means we get to offer more classes and from teachers who may not be in Ohio. This is a season of activities you don’t want to miss. Each Sunday, you will have the opportunity to try your hand at new ideas, skills, funny prompts, and all from the comfort of your home! You’ll get your Pen and Tell It!-in-a-bag with any supplies you need before class so you won’t miss out on anything.

Please email Meg Brown at megbrown@thurberhouse.org with any questions.

Pen and Tell It! workshops are for 2nd-8th graders. For more information or to explore workshops for all age groups, visit: https://www.thurberhouse.org/pen-tell-it

4TH/5TH GRADE WORKSHOPS

U-Choose Academy
Sunday, November 1
2:00-3:00 pm Eastern Time on Zoom
Hogwarts Academy is the perfect place for wizards, but where are all the magic academies for tooth fairies and unicorn trainers? Don't let wizards have all the fun! You’ll imagine your own academy for any magical professions you can think of and write a story telling us all about it.

Elemental Fairy Tales
Sunday, November 8
2:00-3:00 pm Eastern Time on Zoom
Do you like dragons and mermaids? How about gryphons and fairies? Do you believe in the magic of the earth, air, water, and fire? You’ll choose a natural element, think deeply about the qualities of your element, design a magical creature that harnesses the power of that element, and then create a story with it. The power is yours!

Stories with Sizzle
Sunday, November 15
2:00-3:00 pm Eastern Time on Zoom
Non-fiction writing sometimes gets a bad reputation for being boring. But it doesn’t have to be! Picking the right words can bring a story from dull to dazzling. In this workshop, we’ll practice making stories interesting by carefully choosing our words, and being creative above all else. Bonus: the same tricks work for poetry and fiction too!

Road Trip
Sunday, November 22
2:00-3:00 pm Eastern Time on Zoom
Did you know that November 22 is Go For a Ride Day? Celebrate by choosing your means of transportation—anything from a magic carpet to a motorcycle and more—then create your journey to anywhere in the Zoomiverse. Our visual and vocabulary prompts help you find and write your way to adventure.
