Join us on April 30th for an artist reception and concert in the Upstairs Art Space at Whitney and Ventola Music Studios with singer-songwriter and abstract painter Randall Douglas Matson.
From classical music to rock and roll - Randall started writing songs at the age of ten and went on to study vocal performance at Capital University. He has performed with Opera Columbus and the Columbus Light Opera as well as releasing four albums of rock originals on the local Old 3C Label Group. He plays locally in an originals-only three piece rock band called Randall Matson & The Sheridan Two, and will be performing solo at the Upstairs Arts Space surrounded by an exhibit of his visual art.
With his abstract paintings, Randall creates a visual representation of emotions that he cannot, in any other way, properly express. Painting allows him a degree of spontaneity that music performance does not. His only inspiration is the possibilities of what may be when he is finished. His process begins by selecting the colors, canvas size, and implements, and through painting he allows the message - if there is one - to emerge. The spontaneity of the act itself is what keeps him returning to it.
Upstairs Art Space events are free, family-friendly and open to the public. Donations for food/music are gratefully accepted. Look for us in the Beechwold Building at Sheffield and High (next to Beechwold Hardware). Enjoy the offstreet parking, and look for the stairs behind the stone facade.
