Capital Pride Band of Columbus (CapPride) is pleased to announce that the band’s annual fall concert presentation, “Angels in the Architecture: Uplifting our UMC Community” will run two performances, the first on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 7:30 pm, and the second on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at 2 pm. Both performances will take place at King Avenue United Methodist Church (KAUMC) at 299 King Ave, Columbus. This concert will honor and celebrate the KAUMC community, an expression of gratitude for the church’s unwavering support of the band and our community as a whole. A portion of all ticket sales will be donated to area UMC Reconciling Ministries. The concert theme “Angels in the Architecture: Uplifting our UMC Community” features a unique repertoire of pieces, each with either a spiritual or architectural theme. The concert’s title piece, “Angels in the Architecture” by Frank Ticheli will feature the organ, a guest vocal soloist, and unique percussion instruments, such as crystal glasses and whirly tubes. Frank describes it best stating: “The work unfolds a dramatic conflict between the two extremes of human existence, one divine and the other evil.” The organ is also featured on another piece, Finale from “Symphony No. 3” by Camille Saint-Saens. Saint-Saens, described at times as the French Beethoven, blends the organ with the concert band to create a powerful musical experience in this piece which is also known as the “Organ Symphony”.
