Did you know that vanilla was discovered by a twelve-year-old slave on an island off the coast of Madagascar? In this how-to workshop and presentation, youll learn the origin and this history behind the flavor while Sarah demonstrates how to make your own custard base for homemade vanilla ice cream. Sarah will also discuss how to make your own sorbet and other frozen desserts that will showcase one of Americas favorite flavors.
Participants will indulge in homemade vanilla ice cream and will receive a signed paperback copy of Eight Flavors: The Untold Story of American Cuisine.
Sarah Lohmans first book, Eight Flavors: The Untold Story of American Cuisine was published in December 2016. Weaving together original research, historical recipes, gorgeous illustrations and Sarahs own adventures both in the kitchen and in the field, Eight Flavorsis a delicious treat (Bustle).
Sarah works with culinary history as a way to make a personal connection with the past.
