It’s Frank Lloyd Wright’s 150th Birthday year and we hope you will visit the Westcott House in Springfield, Ohio or even MoMA’s Frank Lloyd Wright at 150: Unpacking the Archive exhibit in New York City. But if you’re looking for ways to understand his influence a little closer to home, we hope you will join us for two tours that showcase Modern Design in central Ohio.
Explore Columbus’ transformation from a 19th century town to a mid-20th century city on Saturday, August 26 from 10am to noon. Walking through what was once the northern part of German Village, we’ll discuss the role urban renewal planning had on today’s streetscape, including innovations, successes, and potential regrets. In addition to the glimmering office buildings and integrated landscapes of downtown, we’ll also see a variety of examples of modernist architecture … and yes, the Holiday Inn is a classic example!
This two-hour walking tour will put Mid-Century in context by allowing you to see the influence that Modern Design had on our downtown and how it changed local architecture. The tour covers approximately 3 miles at a moderate pace.
