Join us for the opening reception for Drawn East, Paintings of coastal Maine by Michael Guinane, Cody Heichel and Christopher Burk!

Since the early days of American art, there has been a tradition of traveling to Maine to find inspiration. In the nineteenth century artists such as Frederick Church and Thomas Cole would use the vast mountainous region to create grand landscapes. Winslow Homer fell in love with the Maine coast and lived out his days there painting powerful images of the sea. Artists such as George Bellows, Robert Henri and Rockwell Kent continued to find the beauty of Maine and would return year after year. From Edward Hopper to the Wyeth Family, this tradition of going east has continued to be a great influence on American art.

Following in the footsteps of these and many others, the shows three artists from Columbus, Ohio have traveled together up the Maine Coastline to find their own inspirations. Each artist will bring his own interpretations to places familiar to the many artists who have come before them. While Michael, Cody and Christopher have drawn inspiration from the past, they will also be able to bring something new that is their own to share. Like all traditions in art, you must take from the past, but make it your own.
