Facing Death, Celebrating Life ... a concert by Bill Cohen
7:30 PM to 9:00 PM
First Unitarian Universalist Church of Columbus
93 W. Weisheimer Rd., Columbus, OH 43214
Once we accept death, we can more freely celebrate our lives. That's the unusual theme of this unique concert, now in its 4th year. With piano and guitar, Bill Cohen sings songs about many aspects of death -- different ways it happens, loss, acceptance, and memories. The songs are linked to a wide variety of performers: Pete Seeger, John Prine, Louis Armstrong, Phil Ochs, the New Christy Minstrels, the Kingston Trio, and others.
This won't be a morbid concert. And it won't involve religious proselytizing. Instead, it will be a mix of humorous and serious tunes that prompt us to face the reality of our eventual deaths. A positive theme will shine through -- embracing the inevitability of death can actually liberate us to live our lives on earth to the fullest.
