Uniquely curated by renowned author Wil Haygood, this exhibition celebrates the cultural blossoming that occurred in Harlem in the 1920-50s. Featuring works by Jacob Lawrence, Romare Beardon, Aaron Douglas, Augusta Savage, and unprinted photographs by James Van Der Zee, I, Too, Sing America explores the creative, religious, political, and cultural activism of everyday life during this period. In addition, the exhibition honors the extraordinary contributions and impact of individuals such as poet Langston Hughes and philosopher Alain Locke on the development of African American art, music, and literature.
