A Solo Exhibition of David Butler, Idyll is a series of paintings and collages inspired by pulp fiction novels from the 50s-70s, Butler appropriates the cover images to provoke questions on how society views women of color in our society. These large paintings/collage works are a journey into the mind of the artist critiquing the social constructs of gender, race, sexuality, the male gaze, and power. All while interweaving narratives of the novel with his reality.
