Best-selling author Kate Clifford Larson is the author of Bound For The Promised Land, a biography of Harriet Tubman, and The Assassin's Accomplice, the story of Mary Surratt and the Lincoln assassination. Larson will visit Thurber House to discuss her latest book, Rosemary: The Hidden Kennedy Daughter. In the book, she explores the life of Rosemary Kennedy, the strikingly beautiful daughter of Joseph and Rose Kennedy. Rosemary attended exclusive schools and traveled the world with her high-spirited sisters. And yet, Rosemary was intellectually disabled - a secret fiercely guarded by the Kennedys. Larson reveals the sensitive care Rose and Joe gave to Rosemary, as well as the desperate and duplicitous efforts to hide her away as she became increasingly intractable. Finally, Larson illuminates Joe's decision to have Rosemary lobotomized and exiled to a Wisconsin institution.
