Introduced by Margaret Bodde, Executive Director, The Film Foundation

From Cameroon, the allegorical Muna Moto follows a young couple—Ngando and Ndomé—who are in love but are prevented by Ndomé’s family from getting married because Ngando cannot afford the customary dowry. When Ndomé becomes pregnant, a marriage with Ngando’s older uncle, whose past three marriages failed to produce children, is quickly arranged. The film is a thinly veiled polemic on the dowry system, the country’s colonial past, and political corruption. (89 mins., 4K DCP)
