Passing Strange is a one of a kind, genre breaking, art pop, coming of age autobiography with a punk rock heart.

Aching to find his unique place in the world, a young, black artist rebels against his church-going family and sets out on his own. He leaves Los Angeles on a pilgrimage to the hash cafés of Amsterdam and the boozy haunts of Berlin, where artists plot assaults on the mainstream. He holds many poses and tries on many roles as seeks out “the real” and tries to escape the identity that’s always calling him home.

Passing Strange is like a rowdy concert that happens to tell a great story. With music from Stew and Heidi Rodewald (of the L.A. band The Negro Problem,) the show moves through out-there psychedelic, fiery R&B, and riotous punk in a celebration of the transcendent power of rock and roll rebellion.
