(Rodney Evans, 2019)
Rodney Evans in person
Vision Portraitsexplores the personal story of filmmaker Rodney Evans (Brother to Brother, The Happy Sad) as he confronts his loss of sight due to a rare, irreversible genetic condition. In an effort to understand how this might impact his creative future, Evans turns to three visually impaired artists: photographer John Dugdale, dancer Kayla Hamilton, and writer Ryan Knighton. While the artists share how they’ve adapted their practices, they also discuss how their loss of sight has lead them to break new creative ground. Evans’ own scientific and creative journey through his increasingly sightless world unfolds throughout the film, leaving viewers with a deeper understanding that loss of sight doesn’t have to mean a loss of vision. The noon screening will be presented with an open audio description for visually impaired/low vision/blind audience members.
