Brooks’s colorful wall assemblages extend beyond the confines of the circle incorporating a plethora of found materials and substrates. For Brooks, The circle is symbolic and present, holding together the elements that comprise the body of work, but are not the essence of the individual pieces. Each work has its own story and each story is a part of the human experience.

Queen Brooks is a Columbus native and received both her B.F.A and M.F.A from The Ohio State University. She lived in Abidjan in the Republic of the Ivory Coast, West Africa after winning the Lila Wallace, Reader’s Digest International Artist Award. Her art has been featured in Essence magazine and she has work displayed in multiple museums, including the Columbus Museum of Art. Brooks taught in the art departments at Otterbein University and Ohio Dominican University. She has done multiple community-based projects in Columbus and continues to work and teach in her home studio, Blue Haven Art Studio.
