The "mecca" in the title refers to the eccentric and isolated home of Miss Helen (played by Kerry Shanklin) in the middle of the South African desert. Over many years she has built a home surrounded by a garden of statues and owl figurines. Elsa (played by Abby Dorn), a school teacher and friend of Helen's, stops by unexpectedly. The two talk until sundown when the local town pastor (played by Jim McCullough) arrives to convince Miss Helen to move to a local nursing home. The two characters vying for Miss Helen entangle past relationships, her self-confidence, and the rest of her life.
