In the early 1970s, Christopher Cardozo lived and photographed in an extremely isolated Trique Indian village at the very ridge of the Sierra Madres in Southern Mexico. During this six-month period, Cardozo made over 4,000 negatives, created film footage, collected textiles, and made sound recordings. These photographs reflect Cardozo’s experience and his understanding and interpretation of this cultural/linguistic island.
