Join visiting guest curator and researcher Tessa Plint for this special lecture. Paleontologists have debated the ecological impact of the Ice Age giant beaver (Castoroides ohioensis) and what caused its extinction about 10,000 years ago. Recent studies of fossils of bones and teeth, including some from our collection, have revealed new information about the diet and behavior of this mega-rodent. Learn how climate change and inter-species competition contributed to its demise. Before the program, see a special display of related fossils from the Ohio History Connection and The Ohio State University's Orton Geological Museum. After, enjoy refreshments and meet the speaker. Free with advance registration required by March 23. Call (800)686-1451 or go to
