A free music and art festival held annually in Westgate Park. Summer Jam brings live, local bands, local food trucks, local craft artisans and local artists into Westgate Park for this one day festival that invites the entire Hilltop. There's free face painting for the children, free children's activities that embrace our theme, and a free art zone for the children. We have a great selection of local food trucks, local artists and artisans and of course GREAT LOCAL bands.
Our theme for 2016 is "Summer Jam & the Fantastic Food Garden". We believe that better food is the foundation for a better life. A huge project for Summer Jam this year will be the painting of "The Fantastic Food Garden" on the west facing wall of the racquetball court in Westgate Park. This cement wall will be painted by Danielle Poling (an experienced muralist in Columbus) with butternut squash, vines, berries, the Summer Jam image (a jam jar), birds, pollinators and bright flowers. We'll be teaching where your food comes from, how to grow it and all about healthy eating. Our theme will be integrated into the Children's Art Zone with free hands on activities involving fruits and vegetables. We've invited Highland Youth Garden and they'll be at the festival with a booth that will showcase a variety of vegetables and a game, "ID That Vegetable". Attendees will be given the opportunity to identify and taste a multitude of vegetables grown at the garden.
As always, we invite the local police and fire departments, giving the public a chance to interact in a personal and non-confrontational environment with these important community workers. Also invited, is the Hilltop United Methodist Food Pantry and we'll be encouraging attendees to bring a healthy donation to this food pantry's booth, that serves many in a poorer area of the Hilltop.
