The Paragon Project is a platform designed to amplify the voices of the talented students who attend The Fort Hayes Metropolitan Education Center, an arts magnet school in the Columbus City Schools district. The mission of The Paragon Project is to use contemporary music to address social issues that impact the student population and the community as a whole. The Paragon Project is a listening and live experience that can engage communities in dialogue about the issues represented on the albums and seek resources that can assist them in achieving healthy outcomes.
The Paragon Project Vol.3: 'Note to Self' arrives on the heels of the much celebrated Vol. 2: 'Medicinal Music' album. The success of their sophomore album led to major performances at the Culinary Kickoff to the Kentucky Derby, The Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Awards, The We are the Majority Rally, and The Columbus Jazz and Rib Fest.
'Note To Self' is a smokey, soulful, introspective voyage into the emotional minefield of adolescence and the evolution into maturity and adulthood. Sonically, the album draws its inspiration from artists like, The Internet, H.E.R., and Kaytranada, on tracks like “Word of Advice,” “Unapologetic,” and “Rise Above.” Simultaneously, the album embraces vintage soulful elements in songs like “Time is A Teacher” and “Reflectamentals,” which are reminiscent of Lionel Richie and Stevie Wonder. The album explores themes which are emblematic of 21st century youth. The album captures both the nostalgia and pressures of high school familiar to those that have endured this rite of passage.
The Paragon Project would like to invite the general public to their album release celebration event on Saturday, February 23, 2019, from 6 pm to 9 pm at the King Arts Complex at 867 Mt Vernon Ave, Columbus, OH 43203. This event will feature performances from The Fort Hayes Poetry Slam Team, a mini-fashion show by student fashion designer, Emilienne Alapini, a performance by the Paragon Project, and a much anticipated listening session of their latest project, 'Note To Self.' There will be a reception open to the public with food from Willowbeez Soulveg as well as a resource fair where community service providers that serve young people and families can share programs and resources. Participating organizations include: Nationwide Children’s Community Wellness Program, City Year, Short North Stage, Impact Community Action, and many more.
