The Small Glories, the glorious, powerhouse roots duo Cara Luft and JD Edwards, both veteran singer-songwriters, was born of a serendipitous encounter at Winnipeg's West End Cultural Centre. Luft--a founding member of The Wailin' Jennys--and Edwards trade strong vocal leads and soaring harmonies, driven by her virtuosic banjo and his solid guitar. Their energetic performance and good-natured connection with the audience make for a singular musical experience.
Kim Taylor, a singer-songwriter based in the American Midwest, brings her folksy narrative style to the Six String Concerts stage. In addition to her fans at home, Taylor has a strong following in China, after an unexpected hit there with the song "I Am You". The latest of her five full-length recordings, "Songs of Instruction", continues her tradition of writing from the heart, worn in clear view on her sleeve.
