Introduction to Writing Satire
Instructor: Brooke Preston
Satire is often called "the comedy of outrage." In this lively workshop, learn to channel injustices large and small into satirical comedy pieces that make people laugh and think. Participants will learn the building blocks of comedic satire as well as helpful exercises and tools to turn a clever idea into a great, publishable piece. The workshop includes some writing time, so please bring a notebook and pen or a laptop.
INSTRUCTOR: Brooke Preston is a comedy writer, editor and teacher. A Second City faculty member and co-founding editor of The Belladonna Comedy, her satire has appeared in McSweeney's, Men's Health, Reductress, The Huffington Post, Second City Network, Funny or Die, Columbus Monthly, and others. Adult Writing Workshops are held on Mondays from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Thurber Center, 91 Jefferson Avenue. Workshops are $50 each, or $45 if you choose more than one workshop. You must be 18 to participate. All registrations are non-refundable.
