Tom Batiuk, a Pulitzer Prize finalist and creator of the popular Funky Winkerbean and Crankshaft comic strips, captured the attention of the nation a decade ago when one of his central characters, Lisa Moore, died of breast cancer. The strip was credited with raising breast cancer awareness around the country. This year marks the 10th anniversary of Lisa's death. To commemorate the anniversary, Batiuk, who grew up in Akron and now lives in Medina, Ohio, will unveil his three-volume set, Lisa's Legacy Trilogy. The three books, produced by Kent State University Press, are Prelude, Lisa's Story, and The Last Leaf. Along with Batiuk's presentation, Thurber House is hosting a special presentation of his artwork in the Thurber Center.
Tickets are $25 in advance and at the door.
