About the Book and Author
Comic Shop: The Retail Mavericks Who Gave Us a New Geek Culture explores the world of comic book stores from the early days to today. "There are precious few prose books that have elucidated the quirkiness of the comics industry more than Comic Shop . . . In clear and compelling language, Gearino lays out how comics specialty shops were born in the 1970s and `80s, how they flew too close to the sun in the `90s, and how theyve managed to endure decades into the Information Age."

Gearino is a business reporter specializing in energy issues, with an award-winning stint at The Columbus Dispatch. Before that, he was a newspaper (and occasional radio) reporter. He lives in Columbus with his much better half and their two daughters.
