Many of our customers are regulars who eat at “The Der” more than once a week. We’re their “kitchen away from home”—and with good reason. Der Dutchman serves exactly the kind of simple food associated with Amish home cooking—hearty, satisfying, made-from-scratch meals that make everyone happy to pull up to the table. It’s tradition you can taste. Our Country Breakfast Buffet is served daily, 7:30-11 a.m., and features scrambled eggs, crisp-fried cornmeal mush, homemade biscuits, fluffy pancakes, fresh fruit and pastries from our bakery. If you opt to order off the menu, try our giant cinnamon rolls, french toast or a made-to-order omelets. For lunch or dinner, a popular choice is our Barn-Raising Buffet, available 11:30 a.m.-close. The plentiful array includes specially seasoned fried chicken, slow-cooked roast beef, homemade bread dressing (stuffing), real mashed potatoes, Amish noodles, creamed corn, homemade dinner rolls and our garden-fresh salad bar. On the menu you’ll find classics like meatloaf, country pork chops and slow roasted turkey. Lighter options include homemade soups, sandwiches and various choices of chef salads. Be sure to save room for dessert. Made in our own bakery, you can sample our homemade pies such as Dutch apple, black raspberry or peanut butter cream. For a truly traditional Amish dessert try date pudding, a type of spice cake topped with homemade caramel sauce and whipped cream. In our on-site bakery, our giant-sized donuts and long johns, still-warm loaves of bread and 20 varieties of pies are baked fresh every morning. Our guests rarely leave without taking along a pack of soft chocolate chip cookies or ice buttermilk cookies (everyone’s favorite). Der Dutchman offers carry out orders, catering throughout the Columbus area, and a banquet room with space to serve up to 425 guests. Carlisle Gifts, our gift shop, is just next door. Open Mon.-Fri., 6 a.m.-8 p.m. and Sat., 6 a.m.-9 p.m. Closed on Sundays.
