Prepare to journey back to a slower and simpler time when you step into Nutcracker 50's Family Restaurant and the Old Fashioned Candy Shop. This authentic 50's style diner is just outside Columbus and is short 18 miles from Port Columbus Airport. Nutcracker has its Candy Shop located at its entrance with Amish Chocolates, Krema Nuts which we scoop "hot" right out of our 1940's rotating Nut Display, enjoy Ice Cold Glass Bottle of Coke. We hand dip at our Soda Fountain Johnsons Ice Cream, and you will marvel at the selection of those penny candies you loved as a child from candy buttons to wax pop bottles. We offer Lynd's Orchards Jams, Jellies, and Applesauce's in addition to our own homemade pies and creampuffs. We always have an unusual selection of gifts like Karen Patterson's Book "Eating Your Way Across Ohio" that showcases 101 MUST PLACES TO EAT like "Nutcracker" or 1903 Ohio Railroad Routes Map! Nutcracker is celebrating its 20th year in business and is proud to have been selected by the Ohio Restaurant Assoc. for its 2014 Outstanding Community Service Award for our ongoing work for Veteran's and our community efforts. Nutcracker began as a 1900's style Candy and Ice Cream Parlor in Levi Streets' (popular former Mayor) old shoe shop in downtown Pataskala. Three years later we moved to a 1950's Broad St. building which has always served this community as a restaurant. Over the past 20 years the mom & pop owners, Steve & Nancy Butcher, have turned the restaurant and candy Shop into a local gathering place. Tragedy struck when a local police officer discovered the fire in the early morning of Jan 1st, 2005 and in spite of tremendous efforts by Firefighters, the building was a complete loss. After the fire, the residents and friends stepped forward and helped the Butchers rebuild the business into the gleaming 1950's Diner you find today. Even local grade school students got involved by collecting spare milk money and purchased the replacement Nutcracker standing at our entrance while the community created a fund to assist our employee's while rebuilding. Steve was elected in 2006 and served as Mayor for 8 years and now he and Nancy work fulltime together as mom and pop proprietors. Nutcracker is open Sun & Mon from 7 am to 2 pm and Tues thru Sat 7 am to 8 pm. An easy drive we are located between State Routes 161 and I -70 at the intersection of State Routes 16 & 310, at 63 E. Broad St in the heart of Pataskala. Most major credit cards accepted!
