Poor nutrition is one of the leading causes of preventable chronic disease. The return on wellness investments is significant – up to 600% for every dollar spent.
Why does a wellness strategy matter? If your employees are supported in leading a healthier lifestyle, they have higher rates of productivity at work, take fewer sick days and feel less stressed in their personal lives. We at Wellness Matters encourage people to add healthful food into their lives in a real way with the goal of preparing a meal quickly, efficiently and inexpensively for themselves and their families. Further, by fostering a culture of wellness among team members, individuals feel valued and more invested in company growth. Healthy employees are happy employees.
In addition, addressing solely physical fitness in the workplace as a health intervention can be short-sided – have you thought about the impact of food and nutrition as well? Wellness Matters is a program offering comprehensive food education that is fun, interactive and makes it more approachable to plan meals and eat healthier; participants receive professional culinary instruction as well as delicious food and recipes. Wellness Matters addresses physical, emotional and financial health, kitchen safety and work-life balance with topics such as Meal Planning (most requested), Packing a Healthy Lunch and Healthy Snacks, One-Pot Meals, Smarter Sweets, Cooking for Special Dietary Restrictions, Cooking in Season, Whole versus Processed, etc...
Our passionate instructors teach and team build with fun, customizable food education sessions that can be delivered as a series or single, celebratory events (Cooking Demonstrations, Hands-on Cooking Classes, Growing Workshops, Lunch and Learns and Cook-off Challenges – let us customize something to fit your needs!). We meet people where they are with nutrition and help cultivate a culture where the health of the individual and team is valued. Plus, it is turnkey – we travel to you (all we need is tables!) or we are happy to host in our teaching kitchen.
What's more? We are the social enterprise arm of Local Matters, a nonprofit founded to teach children, adults and families about what healthful food is, where it comes from, how to grow it, how to cook it and how to access it affordably. The organization reaches over 11,000 individuals at-risk of hunger and diet-related disease annually at over 80 sites throughout the city and state.
