A 5K fun run/walk is a common wellness initiative for groups. Downtown Columbus and the surrounding neighborhoods are proven sites for more races than we could ever list. Throughout the year, it seems there is a race every weekend. There are many choices of existing 5K routes or the opportunity to create an entirely new one.

The Scioto Mile, a newly restored riverfront with miles of connected pathways, is a popular location for races as it provides a gleaming view of the city’s skyline. The option allows use of some of the existing downtown running/bicycle paths to minimize costs. The City of Columbus is a close partner with the Greater Columbus Events Council (operated by Experience Columbus) which allows for a seamless process of securing permits and scheduling any necessary closures.

An employee-led wellness committee organizes regular lunch-and-learns on topics ranging from healthy eating to financial planning, Fitness Friday workouts, a lunchtime walking club, team participation at local races and much more. In fact, Experience Columbus has been highlighted by WBNS Ch. 10 as a model wellness program offering advice to other companies on how to start their own initiatives and for the past two years has been recognized by Columbus Business First as one of the healthiest employers in Central Ohio.
