Due to the smaller destinations’ transportation and accommodation limitations, as is customary, Pre- and Post-Tours may be limited to 8-12 members. (Specific activities and accommodations may be subject to change.)

Lake Erie Shores & Islands -- Friday-Tuesday, May 3-7, four nights, $200
(Limited for first 10 registrants)

Enjoy four nights finding your own Lake Erie Love. Lake Erie Shores & Islands is thrilled to host SATW Freelance Council members as we share with you why we love our Great Lake region. First, you'll experience an island getaway. Islands in Ohio? Yes! Adventure awaits as we ferry you across the lake to the charming island villages of Put-in-Bay and Kelleys Island. You'll also enjoy the splash-tastic fun and relaxation at Kalahari Resort, home to one of the country’s largest indoor waterparks. Finally, a behind-the-scenes tour of Cedar Point, one of the world’s greatest amusement parks with legendary coasters that soar above the shores of Lake Erie, a week before it opens for the season. Accommodations and meals are included. Attendees on this pre-trip should book two one-way tickets: arriving in Cleveland (CLE) and departing from Columbus (CMH). Transportation will be provided between CLE and Lake Erie Shores and Islands and to Columbus.

Hollywood & Hauntings in Mansfield -- Sunday-Tuesday, May 5-7, two nights, $100
(Limited to first 8 registrants)

You’ll enjoy two nights in a lovely country B&B and three days touring, including a backstage tour of the haunted and historic Mansfield Reformatory, where the No. 1 movie of all time “The Shawshank Redemption” was filmed. Head to Malabar Farm State Park where Bogie and Bacall tied the knot. Stand atop Mt. Jeeze, so named because that’s the response it elicits as you experience sweeping Instagrammable views of seven counties. Meet the world’s first Robot, ELEKTRO, star of several 1960s movies. Ride the first hand-carved carrousel built in the U.S. since 1930. Round out your visit with stops along Shawshank Trail and other great attractions—haunted and otherwise. Transportation will be provided from Mansfield to Columbus.

This is Cleveland – Sunday-Tuesday, May 5-7, two nights -- $150,
(Limited to first 8 registrants)

Never trendy or flashy, Cleveland’s got a style all its own. The lakefront city is home to some of the country’s most renowned cultural institutions, quirkiest museums, legendary sports teams and popular greenspaces. Visitors can stroll among century-old booths vending everything from pickles to pig ears at the West Side Market, unwrap Ralphie’s Red Ryder BB gun from under the Christmas tree at A Christmas Story House and embark on a music-fueled journey inside the world’s only Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. And with a booming brewery scene and acclaimed restaurants, intriguing experiences can be found around most every corner in Cleveland. Attendees on this pre-trip should book two one-way tickets: arriving in Cleveland (CLE) and departing from Columbus (CMH). Transportation will be provided from Cleveland to Columbus.

 

POST-TOURS

Moonshine, Wildflowers & Waterfalls in Ohio’s Hocking Hills – Saturday-Tuesday, May -11-14, three nights, $150

With its soaring cliffs, craggy caves and dazzling waterfalls, the Hocking Hills offers scenery and experiences like no place else on earth. Take a naturalist-led hike, with close-up views of breathtaking rock formations, waterfalls and wildflowers. You'll have the option to rappel, take a canopy tour or an off-road Segway tour. Discover the region's rich moonshine history with a visit to one of the country's most authentic moonshine distilleries. Learn to play the washboard at the last remaining washboard factory in the U.S. still cranking out these useful instruments. Nightlife shines under a star-filled dark sky at the new John Glenn Astronomy Park. 

German Village "Live Like a Local" – Saturday-Monday, May 11-13, two nights, $150
(Limited to first four registrants)

Enjoy the thrill of discovery as you wander cobbled streets and duck into cool shops, amazing restaurants, the finest patisserie and deli and a 32-room independent bookstore. It’s the ideal opportunity to catch or dive deeper into any stories you missed during our core convention. Columbus' historic German Village is a dynamic blend of Old-World charm and cutting-edge sophistication. Your accommodations, meals and recommendations are provided, but you get to live like a local at your own pace and in your very own style.
