2019 has been the year of Columbus. It's been named a top place to visit by the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Food & Wine and TripAdvisor. It's also been named among the best American cities to work by Forbes and SmartAsset, as well as a top meeting destination by Cvent.
From Aug. 10-13, nearly 5,500 attendees of ASAE’s 2019 Annual Meeting & Exposition had the opportunity to experience the hype for themselves and see that more is possible when meeting in the country’s 14th largest city.
Don’t just take our word for it, the #ASAE19 tweets speak for themselves.
Caring Convention Center
As the central hub of all activity for a major conference, it’s important that a convention center is held to the highest standards, and this should be evident at the LEED-certified Greater Columbus Convention Center. The water infusion stations set out each day used herbs from the center’s Smartfarm, while lunch on the expo floor was a break from the usual and offered attendees the opportunity to build their own lunch from a variety of items individually wrapped in compostable containers. As always, any leftover perishable items were donated to support those in need throughout the community.
Additionally, Columbus’ convention center is the world’s first convention center to become Certified Sensory Inclusive through KultureCity and ladies will have noticed the free, 100% organic and biodegradable feminine products from Columbus-based Aunt Flow available in all the restrooms.
More than ever, attendees care about what happens outside the walls of the meeting room and in Columbus, it’s easy to give them the out-of-the-box experiences they crave. During ASAE, the Experience Columbus team built a pop-up plaza in the 10,000-square-foot Arnold Plaza outside the convention center, surprising and delighting guests with coffee, treats, giveaways from Columbus’ own Bath & Body Works and DSW and, most importantly, visits from Columbus Zoo and Aquarium animals! There are numerous other attractions that can offer unique mobile experiences for a similar set up, such as a science experiment from COSI or a make-and-take project from the Columbus Idea Foundry.
One of the most important aspects of ASAE’s events is that they offered something for everyone. Whether it was the chance to decide on being inside or out, eating anything from vegan to seafood to pizza or even the type of performances to take in. Many expansive, unique venues like COSI, Nationwide Arena and Express Live! in close proximity to downtown hotels allow event planners to build whatever their imagination envisions and ensure that every attendee feels they have a place.
