COLUMBUS, Ohio—Experience Columbus is thrilled to share that the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) recently announced that Columbus will once again host its Annual Meeting & Exposition in 2030 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. Referred to as the "Super Bowl" of association meetings, this will mark the city’s second time hosting the prestigious event, following its successful event held in Ohio’s capital in 2019.
ASAE is the premier global, professional organization for association executives with more than 52,000 individual members and more than 1,800 organizational members. The ASAE Annual Meeting & Exposition is the largest annual educational and networking conference for the association profession in the world.
Approximately 5,500 attendees are expected to visit Columbus for the event, filling 15,000 hotel room nights and bringing in an estimated $8.1 million in direct visitor spend. The potential impact of hosting ASAE is profound as $500 million in future business is expected within five to 10 years of hosting the event. According to ASAE, host cities can expect 20% of ASAE decision-makers to book future business within five years, amplifying the long-term economic benefits for Columbus.
“The impact of the 2019 ASAE Annual Meeting & Exposition on Columbus cannot be overstated, and its return in 2030 is a monumental win for the city,” said Mayor Andrew J. Ginther. “The economic boost from this event will greatly benefit local businesses throughout the region, from the Short North Arts District to Downtown to the Arena District and various shops and restaurants across the city. Columbus is excited to welcome back ASAE and demonstrate just how much we have grown since its last visit."
The economic impact of hosting the 2019 event has been substantial with an estimated $185M from groups committed to come to Columbus, some which have already held their event here and others that are scheduled for future years. In the years since Columbus first played host, the destination has grown to serve as the backdrop for significant industry gatherings. Meetings Today described Columbus as "a creative city of superlatives for meetings and events," while The Wall Street Journal named the state-of-the-art Greater Columbus Convention Center (GCCC) one of the best in the country.
"When Columbus hosted ASAE in 2019, it was hailed as the 'best ASAE ever,' paving the way for us to welcome business professionals and leaders from across the globe," said Experience Columbus President and CEO Brian Ross, ECI. “We know what it takes to put on an event of this caliber. We proved that in 2019 with nearly 5,500 attendees joining us and hosting the most successful Classic in the event's history. We had a record 600 community volunteers and an unprecedented 50 dedicated community partners supporting the event. Now, we're ready to build on that success in 2030.”
ASAE’s Annual Meeting & Exposition in 2030 will utilize the Greater Columbus Convention Center, along with other prominent venues throughout Columbus, including North Market, Lower.com Field, Nationwide Arena and other local attractions. The entire Central Ohio community will come together to welcome ASAE and provide an unforgettable event.
ASAE President and CEO Michelle Mason, FASAE, CAE, congratulated Columbus along with the other nine cities selected to host its Annual Meeting & Expositions through 2034.
“Congratulations to the cities selected to host the next 10 ASAE Annual Meetings & Expositions,” Mason said. “We are excited to partner with these cities to deliver exceptional experiences for ASAE attendees and showcase each city’s unique brand of hospitality. The ASAE Annual Meeting serves as a cornerstone for the association community to connect, share insights and shape the future of the profession.
