Columbus Metropolitan Libraries

Columbus boasts a vibrant network of public libraries, each offering its own unique attractions and resources. With 23 branches scattered throughout the region, these libraries provide fantastic opportunities for free and engaging activities!

The Columbus Metropolitan Library Main Branch , located at 96 S Grant Ave, is the crown jewel of the city’s library system. This central library is celebrated for its extensive collections and striking architecture—in fact, Fodor’s Travel even named the library one of 11 most beautiful libraries in the United States. It features a dynamic children’s section, art galleries and hosts numerous free events and special exhibits. The library's Kaufman Plaza is a lively outdoor space perfect for all ages. Just behind the main branch, Topiary Park offers a charming setting with its topiary recreation of Georges Seurat’s famous painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte—ideal for a leisurely stroll or picnic!

At 3909 N High St, the Whetstone Library blends classic library charm with modern amenities. Its cozy reading nooks and comprehensive local history collection make it a favorite among residents. Uniquely, the Whetstone Library shares a wall with a neighboring recreation center, features a playground outside and is situated across from Whetstone Park, which houses one of the largest public rose gardens in the United States.

The Gahanna Branch, a newer addition, is notable for its reimagined children’s area and large Teen Center, which includes YouMedia—a space for teens to explore technology and creativity. Its numerous windows offer beautiful views, and the branch is conveniently located near free parks and playgrounds in Gahanna

During your library visits, don’t forget to utilize the Culture Pass, which grants free admission to numerous Central Ohio organizations, including BalletMet  performances, the Columbus Zoo & AquariumFranklin Park Conservatory and the Columbus Museum of Art
