In this series, we're highlighting Black-owned businesses in Columbus you won't want to miss. In this article, we sat down with Janvier Ward, to tell us more about her business, Creole 2 Geaux.

Chef Janvier Ward started Creole 2 Geaux as a food truck in 2015, serving up rich, soulful dishes alongside her husband Sharif, inspired by her Louisiana roots. As demand grew, Janvier took a leap of faith opening her first brick-and-mortar location and has since grown her culinary portfolio to two successful locations, a catering company and even a beverage-focused location, NOLA Daq Shack.

Thanks for sitting down with us. Tell us - what inspired you to start your business?

Growing up, I learned the art of authentic, flavorful cooking from my mother and grandmother. Their passion for food and family ignited my own love for sharing those recipes with others. At the same time, I was driven by the desire to create generational wealth and build a lasting legacy through my businesses.

What can people expect when they visit Creole 2 Geaux?

Guests can expect bold, authentic flavors that bring a true taste of the bayou, all served in a lively, New Orleans-inspired atmosphere. From incredible customer service to an experience that feels like a celebration, every visit is infused with Southern hospitality and culture.

My husband and I are always dreaming up new ventures, and our list of future projects is constantly growing! Beyond our own businesses, we love supporting our children’s entrepreneurial ambitions. Be sure to check out Catori’s Candy Cookies, a passion project our daughters have worked hard to bring to life. If you haven’t tasted a batch yet, you’re missing out—reach out to order a dozen!

When you’re not working, where in Columbus do you love to go? What do you like to do in the city?

We love supporting local businesses and exploring the vibrant food scene in Columbus. Date nights often take us to Chef Hiro’s, Blasian Grill and Fountains Take II. For special occasions, Donna’s Delicious Dozen is a must—especially their Christmas donut tree, which has become a family tradition! We also enjoy strolling through downtown and the Short North Arts District, checking out new businesses. As big foodies, we’re always excited to try the newest restaurants in town!

Visit Creole 2 Geaux at 401 N Front St. and 212 Kelton Ave. inside East Market. For more Black-owned business features and things to do in the city, check out CBUS Soul
