Each December, Columbus’s historic German Village transforms into a glowing, storybook neighborhood for Village Lights, one of the city’s most treasured holiday traditions.

Village Lights 2025 will take place on Sunday, December 7, throughout the charming streets of German Village, just south of downtown Columbus. The whole neighborhood lights up with a warm, glowing atmosphere straight out of a storybook—quintessentially Columbus and off-the-charts festive.

What to Expect

At Village Lights, the magic is everywhere you turn. As the sun sets, thousands of luminarias line the sidewalks, guiding visitors past 19th-century brick homes and independent shops dressed for the season. Expect live music, festive window displays, and local vendors selling holiday treats.

Shopping is a major part of the experience, too. German Village’s boutiques and bookstores stay open late, offering everything from artisan gifts to Ohio-made goods. Browse The Book Loft’s famous maze of rooms, pick up a holiday ornament from a local maker, and wrap up the last items on your gift list in one festive evening.

Where to Eat & Drink

Village Lights is also one of the best nights of the year to enjoy the neighborhood’s culinary scene. Many restaurants extend their hours or offer special menus as an added perk during this already festive evening.

Schmidt’s Sausage Haus turns the night into a celebration, complete with live music, with a live performance from the Columbus Chorus. Just up the street, The Kitchen welcomes visitors with a special Village Lights menu. Guests can stop in anytime between 4–9 PM for a warm drink, light bites, or something sweet.

For those looking for a refined dinner or celebratory drink, upscale Italian Cento offers a polished, modern atmosphere perfect for a holiday night out (reservations recommended). Those looking for something more relaxed will find the Old Mohawk Tavern just as welcoming, serving comfort-food classics and hearty tavern dishes.
